Capturing the feeling of having a sex dream in biology class about your lab partner and then telling her your feelings at the school dance. Then you make out while listening to the new Beach House album.

When asked what he likes to do in his spare time, he self-deprecatingly replies, “Mostly just reading books and watching movies…oh, and collecting rocks in a kinda pathetic way.”

He explains further, “I studied a geology major at university, because who would think you can make pop music for a living?” The conversation then turns to the inevitable, one of the biggest rocks in the world. There’s a bashful and dare I say almost loving tone to Alex’s voice as he describes the stripes down the side of Uluru, the mammoth rock that demarcates Australia’s central heartland.

The number for a woman I called “Cat Bitch.” She stole my cat.

Describe your perfect day.

Running or walking; writing either music or words; going to a museum and being inspired by the colors and motion; something nice to eat; afternoon sun; solitude and rest; an encounter with water, whether it’s the ocean or a tub; a conversation with someone in which something is learned and something shared; good music, maybe dancing; night.

List three things you cannot live without.

Water, love, solitude.

It’s mostly college-aged people, and it’s always been like that. I can’t really tell much about the people, it’s always the same sorts; there are young girls who just believe in Victoria really intensely, there are gay men who are ready to lay down their lives for us, then there’s the cute couples- and there’s also one dude who comes alone and knows every word. And there’s older people too, who like the beach boys…so it’s a nice mix.

Some days my heart is extremely confused, some days it feels nothing, some days it’s overwhelmed with getting older, and some days it goes crazy. The only thing that probably gives my life meaning is knowing that I may have made someone happy with my music.
